Juste un petit mot, il est 8h30 le samedi soir et nous
sommes à Yangon, bien fatigués.
Partis à 13 h de Bergen vendredi et changement d’avion à
Amsterdam. Vol long et sans sommeil jusqu’à Bangkok, arrivée à 10 h du matin
aujourd’hui samedi (heure de Bangkok) (4 h du matin heure de Bergen). Après
deux heures d’attente, nous repartons pour Yangon et y arrivons à 14 h 30.
Un ”agent” avait tout arrangé pour nos visas (moyennant
finance) et nous avons passé l’émigration en 5 mn. Cet agent nous attendait
avec une pancarte avec notre nom. Jens l’a payé pour son service (150 dollars)
et il nous a aidé à trouver un taxi. La circulation était dense. Chose curieuse
ici, ils roulent à droite comme nous mais la plupart des voitures ont le volant
à droite. Donc, pour doubler, le chauffeur ne voit pas grand-chose.
Nous nous sommes reposé une demie heure et nous voilà
reparti à pied pour aller voir la grande pagode Shwedagon, à 20 mn d’ici. C’est
une immense pagode recouverte d’or et entourée de nombreuses pagodes plus petites.
Rien que d’en faire le tour prend au moins 45 mn. C’est touristique mais aussi
très fréquenté par les locaux qui y prient. Les gens sont aimables, souriants.
Beaucoup d’hommes portent un espèce de sarong. La pagode a été commencé en 600
avant notre ère!
Nous rentrons à pied et dinons à l’hôtel. Voilà notre
premier jour. Tout va bien.
Just a short entry, it is 8:30 pm on Saturday night and we
are in Yangon, very tired .
We left Bergen Friday at 1.00 pm and changed plane in
Amsterdam. Long and sleepless flight to Bangkok, arrival at 10 am today,
Saturday ( Bangkok time ) ( 4am Bergen time). After two hours waiting, we leave
for Yangon and arrive there at 2:30 pm.
An "agent" had arranged everything with our visas
(for a fee ) and we pass emigration in 5 minutes. This agent is waiting for us
with a sign with our name. Jens paid for his services (U.S. $ 150) and he helps
us find a taxi. Traffic was heavy. A curious thing here, they drive on the
right as we do but most of the cars have the steering wheel on the right. So to
pass a car, the driver does not see much .
We rested half an hour and we left to walk to see the
great Shwedagon Pagoda, 20 minutes from here. This is a huge pagoda covered
with gold and surrounded by many smaller pagodas. Just to walk around them takes
at least 45 minutes. It is touristy but also very popular with locals who are praying.
The pagoda was started in 600 BC ! The people are friendly, smiling . Many men
wear a kind of sarong . We walk home and have dinner at the hotel. This is our first day, all well.
